There's something special about learning the history of the place you call home. When students can connect the stories they learn in the classroom to the communities around them, social studies becomes more meaningful, more engaging, and more memorable.
That's why we're excited to introduce Missouri, Our Home, our new third-grade social studies program designed specifically for Missouri classrooms.
Built around Missouri's updated third-grade learning standards, this new program helps students explore the people, places, and events that have shaped the state while developing the inquiry and critical thinking skills they'll use throughout their education.
Missouri, Our Home is an adaptation of our popular fourth-grade Missouri program, thoughtfully redesigned to meet the state's new third-grade standards. Written by a Missouri educator and reviewed by additional Missouri educators, the program reflects both classroom experience and the needs of today's learners.
Rather than simply learning about history, students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate evidence, and make connections between Missouri's past and present.
Every chapter begins with clear learning goals that help guide instruction while encouraging curiosity along the way. Rich photographs, maps, timelines, graphs, charts, and primary sources invite students to look closely, think critically, and engage with history in meaningful ways.
As students move through the program, they'll discover how Missouri's history connects with its geography, government, economy, and communities, creating a well-rounded understanding of the state they call home.
They'll also explore the Missouri of today through engaging features focused on foodways, culture, festivals, sports, tourism, and industry, helping students see how the state's story continues to evolve.
Along with full alignment to Missouri's Grade 3 standards, Missouri, Our Home incorporates inquiry-based instruction, English language arts connections, and current Science of Reading research and practices to support meaningful classroom learning.
Special feature spreads throughout the book help spark discussion, encourage exploration, and keep young learners engaged from one chapter to the next.

Missouri, Our Home will be available for Fall 2027 classrooms. We can't wait for Missouri educators and students to begin exploring everything this new program has to offer.
