Liz began working at Gibbs Smith Education (GSE) in December 2018 as Managing Editor and Curriculum Director. She worked in various editorial and leadership roles before becoming President and Publisher in November 2024.
Liz was a fierce proponent of education. She believed in providing accurate, well-rounded, and multi-perspective narratives. Her goal was to create resources that made the lives and jobs of educators easier while ensuring students learn and appreciate the rich and diverse stories of the past.
Liz was vital in creating GSE’s line of Diversity Studies titles including Movement: Themes in Black & African American History and La Gente: Latin American Studies. She also directed and collaborated on many other award-winning textbooks and resources.
Liz was a tireless promoter of the value of working together to lift all. She was the champion and instigator of the Gibbs Smith partnership with the Center for Civic Education: a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating an informed and thoughtful citizenry.
Before her time at Gibbs Smith Education, Liz was an educator; she taught AP Language & Composition, Creative Writing, and English Language Arts. She worked creatively and collaboratively to provide meaningful experiences for her students by combining outdoor education, humanitarian projects, and engaging curriculum.
Liz was a passionate leader who truly gave her all to her work. She was unwaveringly dedicated, took great interest in supporting her team, and brought creativity and beauty to all that she did. She will be deeply missed by all those at Gibbs Smith and Gibbs Smith Education, but her legacy will live on in everything we create.
We offer our deepest sympathy to Liz’s family, including her three children who adored her.
